Survey respondents said massage, swimming, acupuncture, muscle relaxers and other alternative treatments also helped relieve their symptoms.
Many said they take opioids to relieve their pain — although narcotic painkillers are generally not prescribed to treat fibromyalgia. Many survey respondents lamented that the disorder had taken over their lives, leaving them socially isolated, fatigued and in constant pain. The 1, people who participated in the survey were self-selected as fibromyalgia sufferers. Ninety-six percent of them were female.
This was the second online survey of pain patients conducted by the National Pain Foundation and National Pain Report. Eight out of ten said they had stopped seeing a doctor because they felt they were treated poorly. I have had Fibromyalgia for at least 25 years and after many surgeries hip replacement, spinal disc fusion, carpal release, metal in my arm and wrist after a fall, etc it has gotten increasingly worse.
I was just finally diagnosed by my Rhuematologist a year ago. The only thing I have found to relieve the symptoms is marijuana. I came across this when my mother was dying from lung cancer and I was told by a nurse that IF I could get it, it would give her the most relief.
Since we live in a state where it is not legal, we had to do a lot of digging to find some for her, and when she smoked it, she said it was a wonderful break from the pain. I am so glad I could do that for her to ease her suffering, no matter what I had to do to get it.
And yes, I also live in a southern state so you can guarantee these bible thumping Republicans will not approve it for a very long time. Just sad that something as simple as an Herb could bring such wonderful relief to so many people and we have to fight to get it. Has cannabis oil been considered since publishing this?
I take 60mg of Duloxitine and mg of Pregabalin and mg of Sertraline daily and they slightly just take the edge off the pain. I have suffered for many, many years and often gave up on doctors and healthcare community.
I became uninsured and went 10 years without care… Finally, with the new healthcare law, I have coverage at 60 now but cannot yet find a doctor who is up to date on Fibro and able to recommend anything. My condition has worsened as it interfers with immune functions in the long term. It is so isolating to not have doctors, much less family, understand. Gentle hugs to you all. We are from a small community in michigan, and the people who knew of her cannot beleive the change in her.
We are 59 years old, grandparents and never used marijauna. This has to change. We are strong advocates of medical cannabis, due to the positive effect it has had on her condition. When I was diagnosed my dr sent me for several test before telling me I had Fibromyalgia. When Lyrica, then Cymbalta came on the market, she put me on them. For both it help from them lasted about 6 months only.
It took my nearly 3 years to get her to give T3s and when they started to no longer work, it took another 3 years to get her to give me oxecodone. I talk to her once, about medical MJ but she flatly refused to talk about, stating she has a peitent with lung cancer after smoking MJ for 25 yrs. At this rate I will be a very old man, or dead before that happens. In UK send me some please? It started about age 12 and I am 66 now.
Do you think that should be allowed to legally try some thing that just may help me get out of bed? To go for a pleasant walk without a walker is a very distant memory. To go anywhere is nearly unbearable. There is an answer to Fibromyalgia. I wrote this article three months after I went on it and I was already starting to feel better. It really does work.
We just need to get big pharma interested. However, I do want to know, what you base these claims on? Thank you for your questions. Marijuana and hemp are two extremely different strains of the same cannabis sativa plant that have been bred over thousands of years to have entirely different purposes. Hemp is not the male version of the marijuana plant.
They both contain CBD. Any medicine can have different effects on different people. For example, Benadryl makes some people sleepy yet can make others wide-awake.
So, it is not inconsistent for a particular medicine to cause a symptom in one person and to help alleviate it in another. I can concur based on real time experience with my Mother who is bed bound with an irreparable fracture to her hip prosthesis. She also eats gluten free muffins containing the oil.
She thoroughly enjoys her alternatives and requests them regularly. Thank you for your comment. It is fantastic that she is able to reduce her use of opioids.
For certain conditions, such as Shingles and Spinal Stenosis, some amount of THC is needed to effectively relieve the pain. In regards to CBD eliminating pain, it depends on what level of pain the patient starts with. In the best case scenarios, my patients have completely eliminated the use of opioids and just use CBD on an as needed basis to manage their pain. Thank you for your thoughts. Cannabidiol may partially normalize alterations in parahippocampal, striatal, and midbrain function associated with the CHR state.
As these regions are critical to the pathophysiology of psychosis, the influence of CBD at these sites could underlie its therapeutic effects on psychotic symptoms. I am 81 and started the CBD drops night and morning. I sleep better and no longer suffer the excruciating pain from diverticulitis. I think it is helping. The diagnosis of COPD was made some years ago and as a health psychologist I do all I can to remain healthy for my 97th birthday!!
Both my grandmother and greatgrandmother did so I believe I will too. It seems, you have researched a lot before posting the blog. Thank you for sharing such a important information, as rarely people know this use of CBD.
Also, the getting high part can be helpful, although not for everybody, of course. Often, with severe pain, the dosage of opiates can be decreased with concomitant use of medical cannabis or CBD and that decrease in dose makes their use safer. During my surgeries i had to use low dose opioids but using thc and CBD helped me not have to use so much!
I wish they were far better regulated, both in terms of dose and quality, and in terms of the claims they are allowed to make….
That is an unfortunate situation; you can find another hospital system, advocate for change within that hospital system, or you can educate. Yes, Hemp-derived CBD has no THC and is less likely to have side effects but some people claim that, for this exact reason, it has less efficacy. There are hundreds of chemicals found in both Hemp and Cannabis.
CBD is only one noteworthy analyte. THC has very important therapeutic effects that are both noteworthy and novel as well. Unfortunately due to the disappointing and down right inaccurate position of the federal government in classifying Cannabis as a schedule one drug, most research institutions risk federal funding if they conduct real research on Cannabis.
She says the deputy did not read her rights to her, and she was escorted to jail for the night. Reapply for your LARA card, show us this, and then drop the charges. When the deputy arrived, she could smell the odor of marijuana. When she interacted with Ms. Saltzman at the door, Ms. Saltzman admitted to have been smoking marijuana and possessing marijuana and that she had allowed her medical marijuana card to lapse. At that time, Ms. Saltzman turned over to the deputy 7 marijuana pipes, 4 joints, a grinder, and a purple glass jar that also held a quantity of marijuana inside.
The deputy arrested Ms. Saltzman for the illegal possession of marijuana and lodged her in the Clare County Jail. Based upon that arrest, a police report and request for charges was generated by the deputy and presented to our office.
My assistant prosecutor authorized a possession of marijuana charge based upon the admission by Ms. However, our goal is to ensure that individuals who utilize medical marijuana are doing so legally. Saltzman was encouraged to obtain her medical marijuana card and if she did so, the case would be dismissed.
She did obtain her medical marijuana card and the case was dismissed. Then, court records show on August 2, a Clare County judge signed an order to dismiss Saltzman's case without prejudice.
I agree with the action the prosecutors office and allowing the subject to renew her card, thus dismissing the case. The person was illegally in possession of marijuana. Saltzman's renewed Michigan medical marijuana card is on its way to her, but she urges voters to legalize marijuana in November and end the stigma.

Must be that sarcasm is too much for you to recognize, much less understand. How are they a drain on society? Because they choose to use a substance that actually helps them, instead of addictive opioids that do nothing but make them sicker? Alcoholics however are a different story.

Law just needs to be updated to fallow the court. Weed law is just about a open warranty at this point because of the court cases. So bob, you condone the police utilizing their resources to arrest a little old lady on a charge they know will be dropped, all while calls are sitting in stack, calls with actual victims?
Your priorities are a bit off Bob. This was the equivalent of being arrested for a burnt out taillight on your car, a ticket that would be dismissed as a fix-it ticket.
Police get paid to do whatever evil a person with a conscience would never do. Absurd waste of resources and tax payer dollars. Start focusing on real issues folks like how they are trying to make pedofillia acceptable in the mind. This is beyond insane. Besides the disgusting behavior of arresting this elder, It was a complete waste of tax payers money and police resources. This will help to bring in the votes.
